For today’s post I thought I’d send out some inspiring vibes (and pics!) as we head into a week of great occasional sales as well as Junk Bonanza.
Although many of the items below are antiques (from one of my favorite sites, 1stdibs.com), a piece need not be precious or valuable in order to make a dramatic display of any surface in a home or office….

Today’s Cool Idea comes from Jennifer of The Crowned Cottage in New Market, Minnesota.
She says that one trick they’ve used at their shop (and their customers have taken to, as well) is to turn a fence post into a towel holder for the bathroom.
Simply hammer a nail into the post (or screw in a hook or vintage shop sign holder) and voilà, you have a one-of-a-kind accessory!
Event Alert: Junk Bonanza is coming up next week. Although I’ve never been to the event, I’ve heard amazing things about it, and I’m excited to attend this year!
There are a lot more photos, as well as information about the event at the Junk Bonanza website.
In case you missed it, KARE-11 (the Twin Cities’ NBC affiliate) featured Teresa DeJarlais of The Porch & Atelier in Buffalo turning a drab dorm room into an inviting live/study space…
There’s no excuse for 1) empty walls or 2) cheap posters tacked/taped to the wall. I see both all too often, especially among the under-40 crowd. My advice, no my command: get yourselves to some occasional sales!! There’s a wide selection, so you’ll fall in love with something – maybe several somethings!
A scene from a northern European town(?) seen at The Bee Cottage in Excelsior. An evening boater oil painting seen at Flamingos Divine Finds in Minneapolis.Gothic-esque oil of the Virgin Mary with child (in a magnificent frame) at Urban Cottage in MinneapolisAbstract florals at Flamingos Divine Finds in Minneapolis.A dark but beautiful original work hides amidst a collection of crosses at Second Hand Rose in Buffalo.
Do check out the selection of original art at the occasional sales – there’s plenty of it, and all that I’ve seen is incredibly well-priced (most under $100 including frame)!
And if you don’t have the good fortune to be in the Twin Cities area, check out garage sales, thrift stores, vintage shops…
I’m a huge fan of traveling for design inspiration, but lately I’ve been staying close to home. Earlier this summer, however, I traveled to Russia via NYC at a sweet little restaurant in Manhattan that epitomizes Nordic/Scandinavian-country style.
This quaint eatery is called Mari Vanna, and I first posted about it on my personal blog. See all of the photos and read the post of Mari Vanna at One Stylish Life.
