Belle Junque at 474 Cleveland Ave. S. in St. Paul is a little shop that’s big on European style. There are fun, French-looking accessories mixed in with lovely antique furniture. The mood is clean, fresh, and spare with punches of color and character. If this is the look you like, it’s worth the drive from Minneapolis – or North Dakota! Belle Junque is open until 8 PM today, 10-5 Fri-Sat, and 12-4 Sunday.

Antique Alley at 218 Central Ave. in Osseo has a classic all American vibe. There are beautiful wooden tables, cabinets with faded or peeling paint (truly shabby), and accessories reminiscent of Mom’s or Grandma’s house. Clean and comfortable might describe this store which is open Fri-Sat 9-5 and Sunday 12-4. If you want more choices in the northwest suburbs, try 2 Birds Antique Emporium (not far from Osseo off 85th St) or The French Flea in Anoka; both are open this weekend. Happy saling!

Old Spitalfields Vintage Market, London
Old Spitalfields Vintage Market, London

Touring England in June provided a chance to see vintage shops across the pond. The good news for you and me is that most items for sale in the UK were pretty pricey. Many items were similar to what we see in Minnesota shops. In fact, it was interesting that decorating and collecting trends seem to be international. One example were the antlers, animal skulls and stuffed critters in London. The popularity of bunting has definitely made its way to the U.S. recently too. It was great fun to explore quirky shops – just as it is here, but it really made me appreciate the wealth of vintage treasures available close to home. Thank you to all the local vendors who make shopping a pleasure!
