Two Stores are New in October

The number of occasional stores in the Twin Cities increased this month with two new ventures. Both are operated by women with past retail experience. Spicy and Sweet Boutique in St. Louis Park is a new venture by Csilla Grauzer, formerly of Old World Antiques. The new store, which held its grand opening at the beginning of the month, will be open again this weekend, but for just one weekend in November. This month’s selections include vintage home decor with a European accent, hand-made gift items, bold vintage jewelry, artisan chocolates, and an interesting assortment of gifts. Hours are Thu-Sat 10-6, Sun 10-4 at 6532 W Lake St.

Annie Minette, the second new store, is opening in Chaska this weekend in an historic building at 500 N. Chestnut making that small town/suburb an even better vintage shopping destination. Owner Dianne Nelson showcases handcrafted florals, decorative pillows, holiday decor and gifts along with some vintage furniture and repurposed housewares. Weekend hours are Wed-Sat 10-5. [Please note that if you are driving south from Hwy 212 on Hwy 41/Chestnut St., you must go a block beyond the store, turn left and go around the block to park by the side door as Chestnut St has a center median and no parking.]

During the holiday shopping season, several stores regularly mentioned in our posts and the Monthly Sales listing may have “extra” shopping days. We hope the store owners will keep us posted so we can in turn let you shoppers know. Please feel free to share any news or finds with us too.
Happy sailing!

A Sale That’s Spooky (in a good way)

IMG_3169

Your Lucky Day is staging a Halloween-themed sale this weekend, October 24 – 27. Or at least there is plenty of spooooooky decor to accent the eclectic selection of Victorian to mid-century furniture, housewares, luggage, and vintage craft supplies. (Note: The bowl of eyeballs is set high up so as not to frighten the toddlers). You’ll find hand-crafted petite terrariums, repurposed jewelry, and comfy “necklaces.” Don’t miss the literary allusions (Edgar Allan Poe, anyone?) Hours are Thurs-Sun. 9 to 6.
4159 Grand Ave S., Mpls, 55409.

While you’re in South Minneapolis, you may want to check out a special one day sale at Urban Cottage, 5157 Bloomington Ave S, Mpls, where all items in the backyard will be 25% off.

Two More Sales this Weekend

There are two more sales which didn’t make this Month’s List.
The creme de la creme (or, a favorite of mine) is Bonjour Provence. The sale takes place at 6501 Girard Ave S, Richfield. (Take 35W to 66th St., then go west a short block to Girard, turn right and one more block). Hours are Thu – Fri, Oct 17-18, 9 – 3, and Sat the 19th 9 – 3. French flea market treasures without the airfare!
The Cottage House Fall Clearance, 4304 Chicago Ave S, Minneapolis, Oct 18-20. Fri-Sat 10-6, Sun 10-3.

It was a treat to preview the new occasional version of Old World Antiques, a favorite shop on Excelsior Blvd. There’s a good mix of vintage home decor, pottery, and furniture including some fine European tables, armoires, and mirrors. You’ll also find linens, upholstered pieces, vintage jewelry, and chocolates. (Yes, there will be samples!) Grand Opening weekend is October 3 – 6. Hours are Thursday – Sat. 10 – 6 and Sun. 10 – 4. Located in St. Louis Park at 6532 West Lake Street (between Hwy 7 and Minnetonka Blvd., across the street from the SLP football field). Also open Oct. 24 -27.
