The shops of Carver are open this afternoon and tomorrow with an amazing selection of furniture, architectural adornments, vintage decor, and fun and inspirational signs. That’s just for starters. A new customer this morning said it was hard to take it all in with so many cool things to see. That sums it up. There are lots of treasures to be discovered. Don’t be scared by the Cty. 61 detour signs in Chaska as you can go west from the city park traffic lights for a couple blocks and rejoin Hwy. 61 West with no problems. Stores are open until 4 today and 11 to 3 on Sunday. Happy saling!
Weekend Salvage in SW Minneapolis
The mother-daughter team behind relatively new Weekend Vintage chose what was a lucky space to establish their new occasional storefront. The location will be familiar to you if you were a regular shopper at Your Lucky Day. Yes, the new store is indeed at 4159 Grand Avenue South. The vibe has changed with a bigger collection of vintage clothes and fewer pieces of furniture, but you will find plenty of large schoolroom wall maps, posters, artsy photographs, and assorted household goods. Vintage fans, old toys, and industrial pieces mix with kitchen and director chairs from the 1950s to the 1970s. Hours are 10 to 5 on Friday to Sunday. Happy saling!
Urban Cottage Has Everything

Hopkins’ Garden Party (Vintage) Gallery
Party Gallery
Hopkins is well known for its antique shops. And its Art Center. Garden Party Gallery at 1213 Mainstreet combines antiques with artisan craft. This occasional shop offers unique takes on repurposing vintage furniture with collage, paint, stain and metalwork. There are handcrafted birdhouses, bunting, cheeseboards and jewelry usually incorporating some vintage element. Decor leans toward cottage and rustic with the truly rusty or shiny sometimes found too. In other words, there is a nice mix. The cute yellow house is open Thursday to Saturday 10 to 6 and Sunday 12 to 5. Happy saling!
E’s Emporium Offers Kitsch and Nostalgia
E’s Emporium continues to add fans with unique vintage finds from the not SO distant past. Customer reactions depend on whether the shop brings memories from childhood or grandma’s house. Mid-century furniture is a staple, but you never know what other interesting pieces will be there when the door opens every first and third weekend of the month. There are lovely slips and dainties in the porch, cotton tablecloths perfect for a picnic, artwork, signs, and metal hangings plus the macrame plant hanger you’ve always wanted. You’ll be offered cake and lemonade along with all the pleasures of discovering the perfect vase, necklace, or table to take home. E’s is open Friday to Sunday from 11 to 6 at 3911 Minnehaha Avenue South (on the Minnehaha Mile of shops) in Minneapolis. Happy saling!
Shuffle – No, Hustle to Buffalo
Shoppers find so much to like amongst the stores in Buffalo. Starting on Soo Lane, Second Hand Rose has lovely upholstered furniture, signs, art, metal letters and fish sculptures, pillows, jewelry handcrafted from vintage bits, things rugged and elegant. Next door you’ll find a wide variety of household decor and furnishings, some fine antiques, patio and garden furniture, and more on two floors plus the outside space. Hours at both shops are Thursday to Saturday 9 to 6 and Sunday 10 to 5.
There are several shops clustered together on Central Avenue just a few blocks south in downtown Buffalo. On the corner at street level is The Atelier which has both vintage and vintagy goods, lots of plants and planters, signs, pillows, chalk paints, and amazing items to decorate your home. Next door is The Cottage Door with larger pieces of furniture, many painted white, mirrors, frames, and interesting vintage accents including the nautical items in the beach room. Take the inside stairway down to the parking lot level and you’ll find even more. Jute Twine & Burlap and its neighbor have a lean toward more modern furnishings in a bright space. And, last but not least, The Porch is filled with charming vintage furniture and accessories in a cozy room and outdoor pieces to add interest to your garden. The addresses are 30 and 32 Central Avenue. These shops are open Thursday to Saturday from 9 to 5 and Sunday from noon to 4. Happy saling!
A Rare Bird Antiques Offers Elegance and Style
This weekend provides a rare opportunity to visit shops that we don’t often write about: local antique shops which are open more days than they’re closed. A good example is A Rare Bird Antiques which is located at 3016 West 50th Street in southwest Minneapolis. It’s one in a cluster of vintage shops at the corner of 50th Street and Xerxes Avenue South which has been drawing shoppers for years with high quality goods beautifully displayed. A Rare Bird is one of the newer shops, but owner Kelly Wallace isn’t new to vintage sales. She has been selling beautiful pieces of European furniture and art at several other shops around the metro for awhile and has a good eye for interesting pieces of various styles. Aside from lovely handcrafted items (made with vintage paper), everything in the shop has a history. Even the garden furniture and urns are authentically vintage. Inventory changes often making frequent visits a pleasure. Shop hours are 11 to 5 daily except Tuesdays. Happy saling!
Red, White & Boom at Haupt Antiek Market
The market is full of fun items for home, cabin, picnics, and gardening. You’ll find fine china, enamelware, tablecloths, signs, art, tables, chairs, chests, and so much more. Unique locally crafted garden stakes, wind chimes, and jewelry share space with English and French vintage dishes and signs. Many one-of-a-kind treasures like a giant wooden barrel are waiting for a new home. Haupt Antiek Market is open today until 8, Friday from 9 to 7, Saturday from 9 to 5, and Sunday from 11 to 4 at 7570 West 147th Street, just west of Cedar Avenue, in Apple Valley. Happy saling!
Bonjour Provence Brings France to Richfield
Bonjour Provence brings charming souvenirs back to Minnesota from flea markets across the south of France and then adds in repainted vintage furniture to offer a sweet little sale. Shoppers often find a reminder of a past trip in the form of a sign in French, an olive dish, a tablecloth in a provencal print, or a watercolor of roosters. Dishes, bottles, glasses, pots, and mundane gadgets can bring back memories or fuel daydreams of future travels. The small tables, benches, and chairs are painted to look like something you might find in the French countryside. This sale is small but lovely and runs Thursday through Saturday. Hours are 9 to 6 on Thursday and Friday and 9 to 3 on Saturday at 6501 Girard Avenue South in Richfield. It’s easiest to reach by taking 35W to the 66th Street exit. Go west one block and turn right on Girard. Go one more block and Voila! Please note that 66th Street is closed west of Girard so the other route would be to approach on 65th Street from Penn. Happy saling! Or, Bon voyage!

The weekend has three more shopping days so head over to 5157 Bloomington Ave. S. in Minneapolis on Friday and Saturday from 10 to 6 and on Sunday from 10 to 5. You can stop at Lake Nokomis on your way home – it’s not far from Urban Cottage. Happy saling!
