Fall Artisan Market Adds to Mama’s Happy Draw

Mama’s Happy Market

Mama’s Happy Market

After all the rain, the ground is wet at the Artisan Market, but everyone is happy to be there. Tents fill the grass with all kinds of fun goods. Many vendors have hand-crafted jewelry or hand-painted signs. Several tents feature artists who work on paper and others who paint on canvas like Evan Abrahamson. Many prints and signs are all about Minnesota as are flannel shirts each with a MN-shaped appliqué. You’ll find clever re-makes of vintage blankets, lamps, and lunch boxes to name just a few. The sweet bibs, hair bows, baby booties, and knit hats make great gifts. Pumpkins in various shapes and colors and assorted materials (even bunting) abound. And, yes, there are some great old metal farm pieces as well as re-purposed small furniture. In other words, something for everyone. Did I mention packaged granola, tea, and salsa? Plus prepared foods and drinks to enjoy onsite! Inside is a large area with clothes and bags, and lots of art, dishes, pillows, furniture, décor, and paint. Be prepared to walk a little way and dress for the weather. Open 10 to 5 through Sunday at 7988 County Road 6 in Independence. Happy saling!

It’s perfect weather for a drive to the historic river towns on the southwest rim of the metro area. In Chaska you can browse a grand assortment of housewares, garden accessories, old rusty signs plus new painted signs, plaid shirts, metal pieces, flowering plants and planters, furniture, and more at Linda’s Cellar located at 110 110 E. 2nd St.
A few blocks north at 416 N. Chestnut (Hwy. 41) you can park at the door of Urban Patina. Here you’ll discover tables and décor beautifully crafted from metal and old wood along with tasteful accessories like pillows, vases, and spring wreaths.
About a mile west off Hwy. 61, you’ll find downtown Carver with its quaint historic district. At the moment, The Good Junk Garage is the only true occasional shop open with its huge collection of metal pieces, classic antiques (furniture, tools, and assorted smalls) as well as quilts, signs, and stained glass. [I say “at the moment” because two shops have closed and the new haven’t arrived yet.] The Good Junk Garage is located at 109 1/2 3rd St. E. across from the city park’s gazebo and next to the Carver Flower shop.
All three of these shops are open today and Saturday from 10 to 4 in Chaska and 10 to 5 in Carver. If you don’t know these towns, there are several other interesting small shops to explore as well…plus coffee, food, and Red Bench Bakery (near Urban Patina). Happy saling!

Chloe’s Attic

Chloe’s Attic has been going strong for six years in Uptown Hamel starting out as an occasional sale and then being open most weekends. Since Sue and Buck opened Chloe’s Attic and promoted Hamel, new businesses have come to join them. Their annual June outdoor sale with many guest vendors was a real community event. And so it is sad to see the store close this month due to health issues.
BUT this is your chance to find a revived relic or rescued treasure to love at your home. Most vintage items are 50% off. These include big dining tables, chests, buffets, desks, chairs, patio furniture, frames, clocks, lamps, dishes, glassware, enamelware, silver, metal signs, and so many repurposed and revamped things you’ll have to take a look for yourself. Chloe’s will be open this weekend on Friday from 10 to 6, Saturday from 10 to 4:30 and on Sunday from 10 to 6 at 155 Hamel Road. (That’s just one block up the hill on the south side of Hwy. 55 about 1/2 mile west of Hwy. 101). Thanks to Sue for sharing all her energy and creativity with us. We wish her the best in retirement. Happy saling!
