This weekend provides a rare opportunity to visit shops that we don’t often write about: local antique shops which are open more days than they’re closed. A good example is A Rare Bird Antiques which is located at 3016 West 50th Street in southwest Minneapolis. It’s one in a cluster of vintage shops at the corner of 50th Street and Xerxes Avenue South which has been drawing shoppers for years with high quality goods beautifully displayed. A Rare Bird is one of the newer shops, but owner Kelly Wallace isn’t new to vintage sales. She has been selling beautiful pieces of European furniture and art at several other shops around the metro for awhile and has a good eye for interesting pieces of various styles. Aside from lovely handcrafted items (made with vintage paper), everything in the shop has a history. Even the garden furniture and urns are authentically vintage. Inventory changes often making frequent visits a pleasure. Shop hours are 11 to 5 daily except Tuesdays. Happy saling!
