Cool Find: Three-Person Chair

At first glance, this circular 3-person “chair” looks wholly impractical.  But having run out of other seating options at the bar (and wearing very high heels), two friends and I took a seat.

Surprise!  This design is genius!  Because the angle of the seats allows all three people to look inward and easily converse, it is actually the most practical option.

I had never seen this design before. Or at least never noticed it, although it’s rather difficult to miss.  I found it in a bar in the Marais neighborhood of Paris, and assumed from its style and construction that it’s a vintage or antique piece.  It seems like perfect parlor seating.  Like something the French intellectuals would have used to host their salons in the 19th century.

The bad news: I fell in love with this chair, and have since scoured flea markets, consignment shops and boutiques around France and Belgium and have failed to find another one.  But never fear, the search continues!  (P.S. please let me know if you spot one!!)
